Ed&IS is also closely affiliated with UCLA’s preK-12 schools, including the UCLA Lab School, a university-based laboratory school for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, and the UCLA Community School at RFK and the Mann UCLA Community School — both UCLA-Los Angeles Unified School District partnership schools. The school’s academic departments offer a variety of professional and academic degrees. The department of education offers B.A., M.A., M.Ed., M.S.A., Ed.D. and Ph.D. programs. The department of information studies offers M.L.I.S. and Ph.D. programs, as well as a post-master’s certificate of specialization. Ed&IS is preeminent in the areas of equity, access and social justice; preK-12 and higher education; and library, archival and information studies. Ed&IS scholars, educators and practitioners research, teach and prepare students in learning and information fields with a shared goal to enhance the life experience of all individuals through inquiry, professional practice and policy that lead to equitable access to quality education and useful information. Ed&IS is a member of the iSchool consortium, an organization of information schools dedicated to advancing the information field. JOB SUMMARYUnder the Direction of the Wasserman Dean and the Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the Assistant Dean of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) will guide school-wide efforts to support the work of equity and inclusion for all members of the Ed&IS community. This individual will work collaboratively with the Dean and Senior Leadership Members to maintain a culturally responsive and safe learning environment for students as well as an inclusive working environment for staff and faculty. The Assistant Dean of EDI will develop and implement equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives and strategies intended to advance academic excellence within an inclusive, diverse, mutually respectful, and equitable university environment. The Assistant Dean will serve as an advocate on all matters of equity, diversity, and inclusion will serve as a key advisor to the Dean around issues and initiatives regarding EDI, culture, and climate for the School of Ed&IS. The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with all levels of Ed&IS to deliver EDI training programs, including, but not limited to, professional development, leadership training, cultural sensitivity, conflict resolution and mediation, and implicit bias, as well as staff engagement events that educate and raise awareness around anti-Blackness, anti-LatinX, gender discrimination, and other forms or racism and EDI issues. The Assistant Dean will serve as an expert and organizational thought-leader for Ed&IS in the creation and execution of action plans, EDI benchmarks and best practices, and integrated solutions that will drive inclusive behaviors and applied practices at all levels of Ed&IS. TYPE OF SUPERVISIONUnder the direction of the Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and under general direction of the Dean, the Assistant Dean functions independently within a wide range of duties that are very broad in scope. The majority of the work is self-generated by the incumbent who is expected to exercise independent judgment and problem solving skills and to proactively recommend to the Wasserman Dean, the Associate Dean for EDI, and Associate Dean for Administration, all matters and issues requiring attention.
