Instructor of Communication Studies with a continuing appointment, nine-month position. Starting date will be September 1, 2024. Louisiana Tech University and the College of Liberal Arts, School of Communication offers a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with concentrations in communication studies, theatre or journalism and a Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in theatre. This position includes the opportu­nity for the successful candidate to join a faculty engaged in developing and promoting this competitive communication program. This is an exciting opportunity for a new or seasoned instructor to be involved in the development of this program from initiation to completion.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters of Arts in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or Organizational Communica­tion required with prior full-time college/university teaching experience preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excel­lent teaching skills and will be expected to maintain a program of scholarly activity. A demonstration of teaching effective­ness may be required as part of the interview process.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach multiple sections of COMM 101: Principles of Communication Studies, which is a general edu­cation requirement (GER) for all first-year students. The course utilizes an interdisciplinary experience in basic human communication including interpersonal, small group, nonverbal, intercultural and public communication in conjunction with the First-Year Experience (FYE 100). Additional responsibilities include student mentoring through the University’s Communication Center, the BARC (Bulldog Achievement Resource Center) COMMons. You will be assisting students with communication skill application, including interpersonal and presentation skills, appropriate course/curriculum redesign activities, and serve on Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), departmental, college, and university committees.

 

THE UNIVERSITY: Louisiana Tech University is a selective admissions university and offers a broad range of fully accredited undergraduate degrees in a variety of majors and doctoral programs in areas of specified expertise. The campus is located in Ruston in north central Louisiana, 70 miles east of Shreveport and 30 miles west of Monroe on Interstate 20. The geographic location of Ruston makes it an important trade and medical center for an area of over 100,000 people.
