The Vetsuisse Faculty small animal hospital of Bern is a busy, multi-disciplinary, referral-only small animal University hospital in Bern, Switzerland. The hospital is committed to providing high standards of patient care as well as postgraduate training (internships and residencies). The caseload is busy as well as varied yet provides a good learning and teaching environment. Strong team spirit spices the working days. The neurology specialty intern will be supervised and work in daily contact with three neurologists supported by European and American specialist clinicians in a wide range of disciplines (anaesthesia, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine (general and nephrology), emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology). Our hospital contains excellent facilities of an advanced referral hospital including MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, electrophysiology equipment as well as a wide range of neurosurgery equipment for computer-assisted brain and spine surgery, video-endoscopy, microsurgery and minimally invasive surgical equipment. Only applicants with good knowledge of German and/or French as well as English will be considered. The Neurology Intern will work under the supervision of the neurologists and will be involved in the daily care of patients, consultations, diagnostic procedures, and neurosurgeries. The intern will take part in weekly neurology (journal cubs, book clubs...), radiology and neuropathology rounds. Research in neurology will also be encouraged. The intern will also have five weeks of vacation to explore and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and numerous recreational opportunities Switzerland has to offer.
This internship will be suited for someone with 1) veterinary degree, 2) previous general practice experience and/or 3) previous rotating internship. Ideally, the candidate will also have some experience in neurology, and an interest in pursuing a Residency of the ECVN. The internship will mainly provide training in clinical neurology, neurosurgery, electrodiagnostic, and neuroimaging.
