Working for the Department of Psychiatry

The University of Alberta's Department of Psychiatry has a well-established residency training program in psychiatry, with Royal College-accredited sub-specialty training programs in child & adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry.  The successful candidate will play a significant role in Medical Education Leadership. In addition to post-graduate residency training, the Department has commitments to education as a part of the MD Program with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, providing both pre-clinical and clinical teaching for core and elective experiences for undergraduate MD students.  The successful candidate may also integrate undergraduate medical educational leadership in their position.

AHS is Canada's first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta, as well as to some residents of Saskatchewan, B.C., and the Northwest Territories. With the recent announcement, the successful candidate will transition to Recovery Alberta, aimed at addressing clinical needs in addictions and mental health.  Our multi-disciplinary teams in the Edmonton Zone consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, education, and speech-language pathology provide education and assistance for more than 1.4 million people in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

At the provincial level, researchers in the Department are working closely with AHS / Recovery Alberta in the context of the Strategic Clinical Network Addiction & Mental Health Integration Network | Alberta Health Services. There is an excellent alignment between the SCNs and the priorities of the provincial health research funding agency (Alberta Innovates Health Solutions).
