The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

Our group: Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology (LOBP) directed by Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi consists of a dynamic and complementary team with expertise spanning medicinal chemistry, virology, molecular biology, toxicology, pharmacology, immunology, and computational biology. The Schinazi lab focuses on discovering novel antiviral agents with the goal of advancing promising compounds to clinical trials. Over the years, the group has developed several small molecule inhibitors for the treatment of human viral infections including HIV, herpesviruses, hepatitis B and C, SARS-CoV-2 and work actively on drug targeting emerging human viruses including Dengue, West Nile, Yellow Fever, Chikungunya, Ebola, Norovirus and Enteroviruses.

Facilities: The lab employs over 70 people, including several research faculty, post-doctoral fellows, support scientists, research staff, administrative personnel and graduate students. The laboratory consists of approximately 3900 sq. ft. of lab space, with another 700 sq. ft. dedicated to administration. This includes BSL-2, BSL-2* and BSL-3 laboratories for research and training, four dedicated molecular biology labs, three cellular/molecular toxicology and pharmacological facilities, mass spectrometry, gene chip and flow cytometry facilities. In addition, LOBP has its own fully equipped chemistry laboratory with all the resources required to perform synthetic and medicinal chemistry including 400 MHz NMR with autosampler, UPLC/MS system, preparative HPLC, automated purification systems, and microwave synthesis reactor.

LOBP is now seeking Post Doctoral Fellows with synthetic and medicinal chemistry expertise to join its chemistry group. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

The candidate will:

- -be a skilled synthetic organic chemist with a consistent track record of design and synthesis of small molecules

- -utilize synthetic organic chemistry expertise to design and execute novel multi-step synthesis of complex molecules of interest including nucleoside analogs and small molecules as potential antiviral agents

- -be familiar with all the modern technics of purification and chemical characterization including NMR (1D & 2D), MS, HPLC

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
