Research Scientist in Astronomy
University of Chicago
United States

The Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Research Scientist, working in the South Pole Telescope (SPT) group with Professor John Carlstrom and in Professor Chihway Chang’s Large-scale Structure (LSS) cosmology group. The primary responsibilities for this position include analyzing cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from the SPT and optical survey data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the upcoming Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), both as independent data sets and in cross-correlation, and creating and analyzing simulations to support these analyses. The Research Scientist will take on a leadership role in SPT-LSS cross-correlation science, including representing this SPT working group at scientific conferences. The Research Scientist will also work with the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC) to construct pipelines for both LSS analyses and CMB-LSS cross-correlations. This will include exploring advanced data analysis techniques via artificial intelligence / machine learning approaches.
