Job Summary

The primary role for will be to provide leadership in laboratory research projects in collaboration with the Faculty investigator and external collaborators. The Research Scholar will work directly with the Faculty investigator to establish priorities and timelines for objectives to meet the common goals. All studies will involve differing degrees of molecular design, chemical synthesis, data analysis, and bio evaluation of molecular entities for pharmaceutical or diagnostic applications. In some projects, the properties involve synthesizing, testing, and developing new candidate pharmaceuticals using in vitro and in vivo models. Other projects will include designing, synthesizing, and testing new reagents suitable for clinical assay development. Daily activities will consist of overseeing the development and execution of research plans, including guiding and mentoring student and staff researchers to ensure timely project progress. The position will also support the maintenance of the research laboratory under standardized operating procedures. The Research Scholar will work directly with the Faculty investigator to coordinate the writing and submission of the project reports, manuscripts, and proposals to meet appropriate deadlines.

What We Are Looking For:

 

Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 
  • A minimum of three (3) years post-graduate research experience in pharmaceutical sciences in academic or industrial research settings.
  • Evidence of managing a research program, including training and direct supervision of technical personnel. 
  • Experience in the discovery and development of both small molecule and protein-based products for therapeutic applications for countermeasures of toxic insults 
  • Prior publications and work experiences that document scientific depth in and areas of relevance to cancer-relevant research. 
  • Prior documented experiences with biochemical assay development, cellular assay development, suitable for translation to high throughput screens or clinical assays. 

 
Skills needed:

Communication

  •     Excellent record-keeping skills.
  •     Ability to plan and execute research projects with goals of peer-reviewed publications as a lead author. 
  •     Ability to articulate oral and written objectives for self and individuals under direct supervision.
  •     Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. 
  •     Ability to carefully document research findings and communicate them to others

Laboratory

  •     Specific research experiences with peptide synthesis, protease biochemistry, molecular docking, multiple forms of chromatography systems, hands on experience with mass spectrometry data acquisition and analysis. 
  •     Synthetic organic chemistry of small molecules
  •     Bioconjugate chemistry of peptides, proteins, nucleotides
  •     Computational modeling for drug design
  •     Biochemical and cell-based assays including reporter constructs
  •     Mammalian cell culture expertise
  •     Analytical chemistry including HPLC, mass spectrometry, NMR
